Organic Hampers | | Organic hampers from the Tuscan mountain estate of La Parrina | | | La Parrina is a 450 hectare estate stretching over foothills along the Tyrennian coast south of Grosseto. It is characterised by Mediterranean scrubland with an abundance of intensely perfumed herbs and berries. The estate took shape at the beginning of the nineteenth century following the marriage of a daughter of the Strozzi family to a Giuntini. It has remained in the hands of the Giuntini family ever since, with the Marquess Franca Spinola as the current owner. The name Parrina is derived from the Castilian word Parra, meaning vine or pergola and this gives a strong indication that by the Spanish epoch the area had already been recognised as excellent for wine production. The wines of La Parrina Parrina Rosso and Bianco were first awarded DOC status in 1971 but with new regulations in 1986 varieties such as Cabernet and Merlot were introduced to the red and Chardonnay and Sauvignon for the white. These new grapes complemented the area’s traditional varieties, red Sangiovese, white Ansonica and Trebbiano and created wines in tune with modern taste. The food of La Parrina Land not laid to vine has been dedicated to the production of fruit, vegetables, olive oil, flour and many other 100% natural, organic foods.
